Autumn is the perfect time to enjoy a walk along the shore. Temperatures are mild, crowds have dispersed for the season, and there’s still enough daylight hours to go for a stroll. Thanks to your support of conservation on Long Island there are many places you can view undisturbed coastlines.

Looking for ocean views? On the South Fork head to the collection of Meadow Lane Preserves or the Trust’s first preserve, Phillips Pond Preserve in Southampton. Further east you can see the Amagansett Life-Saving Station. Heading west? Marvel at the 65 acres of protected ocean and bay property along Dune Road in Quogue and take a walk along the boardwalk there.

Out on the North Fork you can spot the Long Island Sound from Hallock State Park. If walks along the bay are more your speed, you have lots to choose from - starting with Edwards Farm in Orient to the Widow’s Hole Preserve in Greenport out to the New Suffolk Waterfront.

We would be remiss to not mention Shelter Island when discussing shorelines. Enjoy views of the coast on your ferry ride to Shelter Island. Once there, stop at the Reel Point Preserve and admire the blooming Seaside Goldenrod.
