Hi! My name is Addie and I’m on the farm crew at Quail Hill this summer. I attend Scripps College outside LA and am studying environmental analysis with a focus on food systems. Farming is still relatively new to me, having worked one season in my home state of Minnesota last summer. Through that and other experiences volunteering at farms in California, I witnessed the power that food and food production have to create and strengthen community.
As I reflect on my time at Quail Hill Farm, that sense of a shared investment in growing, maintaining, and learning about the crops we tend to stands out. Being at a farm that prioritizes education has created an energetic and fulfilling place to work. The other thing that has made my experience here so is the connection to the community here at the farm. From sharing music with The Cover Crops at the potluck to working alongside volunteers while gleaning and making the food we grow accessible to more people, I’ve valued opportunities to get to know people and the reasons they find this place important.
Though the summer is still so full of life, a return to the rhythms of school is a few weeks away. It’s hard to leave in the height of things, but I feel so grateful to have shared this season and place with everyone who is a part of it. Thank you!
