About
In September of 1989, the Trust purchased 19.6 acres of extraordinary farmland and meadow on Sagg Pond from Janet Lester and Ruth Fleming – children of Everett Foster, a farmer who had at one time owned (along with his brother) several hundred acres of land in Sagaponack. The acquisition was accomplished through the generosity of 9 neighbors on the west side of Sagg Pond, who provided all of the $1,274,400 necessary for the fair market purchase, as well as over $55,000 in additional acquisition costs including closing costs, Trust expenses, and a stewardship contribution. The farmland had been farmed by Cliff Foster, a cousin of Janet and Ruth, for decades. Â
Visitor Information
The public is not allowed to access the preserve as it an active hunting area. However, the Village of Sagaponack maintains a parking area at the front of Smith Corner Preserve off of Bridge Lane. From the parking area you can launch a kayak or other personal watercraft into Sagg Pond.
While paddling on Sagg Pond you'll have wonderful views of both the Smith Corner Preserve and the adjacent property which contains a conservation easement. The property has approximately 1,475 feet of shoreline along Sagg Pond and offers the boating public significant scenic vistas of open space, farmland, and wetland.
