For over 25 years, Susan Tuths provided the Trust with sage advice and counsel…not only working with our planning and stewardship staff to accomplish an incredible portfolio of conservation projects encompassing the full range of conservation tools, but also with staff leadership on contracts, credit agreements, and more. When Susan announced in the fall of 2021 that she would be retiring, we were sad to hear, but happy for her. We wish her all the best in this next chapter of her life. “Susan has been an invaluable asset and we will miss her dearly — we truly appreciate all that she has done for the Trust over many years,” noted John v.H. Halsey, the Trust’s President.

From farm leases to preserve donations, many of the projects she helped accomplish can be seen on our Places to Visit webpage, including the North Menantic Preserve on Shelter Island, the Georgica Pond Preserve in Wainscott, and the Danilevsky Farmland in Water Mill.

In reflecting on Susan’s contribution, Melanie Cirillo, Vice President, said, “what always impressed me about Susan is how calm, cool and collected she was in the face of urgency. The Trust’s ability to respond to opportunities in a nimble problem-solving fashion has been an important part of our work. We came to rely on her legal expertise to strategize with us on outside-the-box solutions; and her patience and capacity to work on several complicated projects at once to meet the opportunities we were presented with.”

“We all grew very fond of Susan’s sense of humor and warm demeanor, and many staff developed a true friendship with Susan over the years,” Melanie added.

Thank you Susan!
