The New York Times writer Florence Fabricant explores the growth of livestock farming on the North Fork … and featuring many of the farmers and organizations the Trust has worked with over the years. Farms and organizations highlighted in the article include, including Browder’s Birds, McCall Wines, 8 Hands Farm, Feisty Acres Farm, Peconic Escargot, Long Island Farm Bureau, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County, Deep Roots Farm, and Goodale Farms.
Through our Farms for the Future Initiative, the Trust’s staff works with our public and private partners to address issues of accessibility, affordability and sustainability. Through purchase, leasing, resale, education and mentoring, the Trust works with farmers –- from the multi-generational to the start up -– to ensure a future where fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy, meat, poultry, shellfish and more are still grown on Long Island.
A diverse farm community is important to the future of agriculture on Long Island.
