Hello. My name is Rosalie Poitras and I started at the Peconic Land Trust in late June. I was born and raised on Long Island and currently live in Manorville. In my town there are a bunch of farms within walking distance from my home. I feel very fortunate to be able to visit the farms in my community at any given time and have the opportunity to enjoy these beautiful farms and all that they have to offer.
When I learned that there was a job opportunity within the Planning department at the Trust, I was very eager to apply. I have many years of experience being an administrative assistant and felt I would be a great asset to the team. I’m now part of a dynamic group of individuals, learning about conservation and preservation. Seeing the process of how it is accomplished from beginning to end is very exciting.
Some of my favorite hobbies are cooking, hiking, drawing, and reading. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and going hiking. My last hike was at Bear Mountain State Park with my family, pictured above. My favorite season to hike is in the Fall when the leaves are just beginning to change colors. I am always up for reading a good book and I also enjoy drawing since I was an art major in college. My husband and daughter enjoy my cooking, which has inspired me to try new recipes quite frequently. Appetizer Pepperoni Basil Tomato Puffs is a nice and easy recipe that can incorporate local ingredients. Check out the recipe here.
Once again, I am very excited for this opportunity to be part of the Peconic Land Trust team and I look forward to working with all of you! If you’re interested in learning more about conservation planning on Long Island contact me at RPoitras@PeconicLandTrust.org.
