A broader envioronmental commitment
For Trust donor Glorian Berk, conservation means “getting involved in environmental activities within our Town and encouraging others to do it as well.
“I read Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring while in high school and immediately became interested in the environment.
“I really love the space and the nature of the East End. Growing up in Maspeth Queens, I had people and houses all around me. Now I’m tucked away in the woods. I was always a walker and now I have the beautiful trail system to walk in. I also attend many of the local hikes and kayak events offered here.
“I first heard of the Trust from newspaper accounts and from friends who were active in the Trust. Two aspects of their work really resonate with me. They help farm families keep their land intact by advocating for the purchase of development rights to reduce estate taxes. This is something I applaud.
“I really love the space and the nature of the East End.”

“Also, the work they do to train new farmers on farms like Quail Hill is wonderful. The Trust’s efforts to keep “real agriculture” here on the east end is one of the reasons I decided to add the Trust to my will.
“Once I made my legacy decision, it was easy to also donate through a required minimum distribution from my IRA, while I’m alive. It helps me eliminate my tax liability and it makes me feel good knowing that the Trust and my community will benefit. “
