Donation of a Waterfront Property in Montauk will Contribute to the Health of Tuthill Pond

In December, Marc Rowan donated a small shoreline parcel to the Trust on Tuthill Pond in Montauk. The property will now remain forever undeveloped.

“We thank Marc for choosing the conservation option for this sensitive waterfront property in Montauk. Landowners have many choices to consider. Through his gift to the Trust, Marc is contributing to the protection of land and water resources in our community,” said John v.H. Halsey, President of the Peconic Land Trust.

Currently in an undisturbed and natural state, the property could have been developed with potential negative impacts on the water quality of Tuthill Pond.

“The protection of small, potentially developable lots are critical to conservation efforts on the East End of Long Island. In this circumstance, the gift of the Rowan parcel not only enhances the scenic and open space character of the community, but also reduces the impacts to our natural landscapes that may not be quite so visible. This would include the increased runoff and flow of nitrates into our water systems that typically correlate with development,” added Kim Quarty, Senior Project Manager, Peconic Land Trust.
