Steele Family Conserves 16+ Acres of Farmland in Mattituck

Our thanks and congratulations go out to David and Sherry Steele for choosing conservation on 16.388 acres of their farmland in Mattituck. The Steeles, who farm 300 acres of land in the Town of Southold, recently sold a development rights easement on 16+ acres for row crops and nursery stock to the Town of Southold. The Town acquired the easement using funding from its Community Preservation Fund.

Just this week, David was featured by the Suffolk Times talking about his farm! Check out the video here:

The Peconic Land Trust staff has worked with the Town for many years to provide advice and support for its conservation efforts, such as the one with the Steele family.

Working with our elected representatives and their government agencies is an important part of our work and we appreciate the opportunity to serve our communities.
