Another Productive Year

2022 Accomplishments

As 2022 comes to a close, we have a lot to be thankful for thanks to your support:

• Connections Programs - Over 1000 people joined us at Connections programs throughout the year. We were able to share with you gardening tips, paddles, hikes, lectures, and so much more!
• Conscience Bay – The Trust worked with the Kozikowski family to purchase their property located on Conscience Bay in Setauket. The parcel borders New York State DEC-owned and protected land, adding to an existing assemblage of parcels along Little Bay and Conscience Bay with historic and environmental significance.
• Deep Hole Creek Conservation - In June the Trust became the interim owner of a 14.94-acre farmstead in Mattituck. Thanks to community support, the property has been protected in perpetuity through the purchase of development rights by the Town of Southold. This Fall, the Trust issued a request for proposals and began the search for a conservation buyer for the property.
• Georgica Pond Preserve - You can now enjoy the beauty of the preserve with the addition of a walking path and benches. This year, we also installed an informational sign about the species found in the watershed and continued our restoration work.
• Harold A. Reese Preserve and Wolf Preserve - This summer a 1/2-mile trail connecting the two preserves was completed. All trails at the two preserves have been widened to six feet to accommodate wheelchairs and strollers.
• Jones Creek Preserve – In partnership with the Town of East Hampton, the Trust purchased this 2.71-acre property in April. Located where Jones Creek flows into Georgica Pond, the property sits within the 4,000-acre Georgica Pond Watershed.
• Wading River Farmland Initiative - Due to a huge outpouring of support this April, we were able to reach our goal of $305,000. This ensures that the 38-acre Condzella family farm in Wading River will be protected forever for agriculture.
