Here on the East End, we not only enjoy a bountiful harvest of summer produce, we’re also blessed with a long growing season, one that nowadays stretches through October and beyond.
At Bridge Gardens, we’re well into our annual harvest of tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, beans, cucumbers, and more. Yet, even though there’s still more than a month left of summer, we’ve just planted our last rows of carrots for the season and planted seedlings of broccoli, cabbages and pak choi for fall harvest.
There’s still a long way until the first frost, and there’s much more planting to do, but it’s time to plan ahead to keep the vegetables coming right through the end.
The Herb Garden keeps us as busy as the Vegetable Garden!
Maintaining its colorful displays of plants useful to humans in so many ways is a weekly endeavor and well worth it, as the garden continues to draw and delight visitors.
They seem especially to enjoy the new herb garden entrance sign, which informs us about the garden’s plantings and history.
We’re especially grateful to the Bridgehampton Association, whose contributions helped fund the sign.
All our gardens, beds and borders receive weekly attention. Shawn Gant, Dai Dayton and I move throughout the property, working on a different area each day or two, attending to routine tasks, as well as those that often pop up unexpectedly. It’s a labor of love and nothing pleases us more than when we see visitors enjoying our accomplishments.
We hope to see you soon on your next visit, enjoying all Bridge Gardens has to offer.
